Open Question: Is it safe mixing laundry detergent and bleach?

My mom was washing towels and she told me that she had added some bleach, a cap full or so, along with the laundry detergent. Would this create chlorine gas? Would the towels be ok to still use?

Open Question: How do you get rid of skunk smell in your car?

I hit a skunk lastnight and now my whole car reeks like skunk really bad. You can smell it on the car when you walk by it and when you're in it, it smells really bad. I've been spraying a lot of febreeze in it and having the windows open but I want to know of a way that can get rid of the smell fast.

Open Question: Can any one tell me what is the best brand to get for a washing machine?

I know Simpsons and Fisher and Payel. Are they any good? what about whirlpool or electrolux. Has any one have any experiences using them? I know these days, the washing machines generate very minimal noises.

Open Question: Cigarette smoke smell out of the basement wood?

My father smoked for 9 years in the unfinished basement of his house. How can I get rid of the smell down there? Being an unfinished basement, the beams and joists are exposed, the walls are fiberglass insulated and covered with plastic, and the floor is mostly bare concrete with a few areas covered with indoor/outdoor carpets and rugs. My primary concern is getting the stains and smell out of the joists and beams since I cannot easily access them or take them outside to air out. I am pretty sure the carpets will have to be replaced, and the plastic can probably just be washed. I am planning on eventually sheetrocking the whole basement since he *hopefully* has quit smoking for good.
