Open Question: Why does my carpet smell after I steamed cleaned it?

About a day after I steamed cleaned my carpet, my carpet started to smell. It has a mildew smell. It has never smelled like this before. I let the carpet dry with the door and windows open and with the fan on. I was thinking of spraying some mint green rubbing alcohol on it. I herd it removes oder and has a minty smell after wards. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem after a steam clean? If so, let me know if it goes away or if you had to do something about it. Thanks.
