Open Question: How do you change your ego from cluttered to comfortable?

I know that I have too much stuff and I keep being given more than I need because that's what people do on birthdays, Christmas, third-grade craft projects, charity gifts for donations, etc. Each item provides a memory and an obligation. I look at someone who throws out a gift as someone who shows the giver a lack of respect or love and I don't want to be that kind of a person, but I don't need an clay ashtray of a desert oasis - I don't smoke. Then the other son makes a refrigerator magnet that is cute and I do keep it.

Open Question: how well does this work?

smoky smelling home is usually a sign of a die hard smoker, a bad cook or a previous home fire. Nothing can turn off guests faster than having to sit in a smoked up room. Whether you have made the decision to rid your home of the smoky smell once and for all or just want to stop the embarrassment of a stinky house, you can easily rid your home of that "smoke pit" smell for good. Things You'll Need: * Vinegar * Vacuum or carpet cleaner * Scrub brush * Carpet shampoo * Baking soda or carpet deodorizer Instructions 1. Step 1 Determine where the majority of the smoke originates. If you are smoker that is known to kick back in your living room easy chair with a cigarette, the living room would be the best place to start. 2. Step 2 Open all the windows in the home to begin the airing out process. No amount of cleaning solvents will work better than fresh air; however adding these items together will work wonders. 3. Step 3 Pour two cap full of vinegar in a small cloth and begin to wipe down all non fabric surfaces within the home. The vinegar will cut down the smoke smell and overpower the scent. In two to three hours at most, the vinegar smell should dissipate as will the smoky aroma. 4. Step 4 Rent a carpet cleaner vacuum or use a regular scrub brush and vacuum with carpet shampoo to clean all the carpeting within the home. Use the scrub brush to clean all sofa fabrics. 5. Step 5 Spread baking soda or carpet deodorizer onto the carpets and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then vacuum. This will bring about a fresh scent.

Open Question: getting the smoke smell out?

tragically half my house burned down this week. fortunately some of my son's plastic toys and our clothes were salvageable. does anyone know of a solution that i can use to get the smoke smell out of his toys? we saved the plastic toys and threw away the stuffed animals because they were destroyed. we used baking powder on the clothes and that seems to have helped but not sure if it will work with the toys. any suggestions? and thank you in advance for your answers.

Open Question: How can I reduce hard water stains on my dishes?

I'm renting a house, and my landlord is too lazy and stingy to have a water softener installed. My dishes, whether washed by hand or in dishwasher, have very bad hard water stains.... It is kind of unappetizing eating from my dishes with the stains. so my question is, is there some sort of remedy so that when I wash my dishes they don't come out with hard water stains?
