Open Question: How to get this streaky film off of the silverware?

We just recently received a set of silverware for a wedding gift. It's sterling silver and a very simple design. I've been washing them with a scrub brush and Dawn and they've ran through the dishwasher once but the dishwasher broke so I've been hand washing them since then. I just noticed that theres a streaky film on all of the silverware now. I'm not sure if this was caused by me using a scrub brush, so I started using a sponge and it still won't come off. I'd hate to throw it out since it was a wedding gift, but it really doesn't look good. Is there anyway to get rid of this?

Open Question: Does washing machine drum size matter so much?

Hi I am a single person and do a little bit washing. A 4kg drum would be more then enough for me. I have seen a washing machine I really really like buts its 6kg. It does however have light load(1-2 pieces of clothes) and half load options. Anyway if i get the 6kg machine and keep using the light load options will there be any other problems? Will it spin and rinse the smaller load of clothes(on lighter settings) as much as a 4-5 kg machine. Should I get the 6kg machine as a single person? Thanks

Open Question: How to get rid of cigarette smoke smell in the air?

Hi, I live in an apartment building and all the apartments share a stairway. My fiance and I do not smoke, but a lot of people in our building do. I don't really have a problem with it - except for the fact that the whole stairwell reeks of cigarette smoke and the smell comes into our kitchen. I don't care about the stair way, but I'd like to be able to sit down in my kitchen without having to smell the smoke. Is there anything I ca do to keep the smell from coming in to our apartment, or to eliminate it once it's already in? I keep the kitchen windows open when it's warm enough but even that doesn't usually help too much. I don't have a lot of extra money to buy an expensive air filter, or else I would. I need so lower cost options, if there are any. Thanks in advance.

Open Question: how to get white stains out of clothes?

Our washing machine has ruined two wash loads with white stains all over them. We are using washing powder but washing them again hasnt got them out. This is why we think that it isnt the powder. Could it be something else or has our wash powder permenantly stained our clothes?
